Veterans Court - Collin County

The Collin County Veterans Court program services those combat veterans who have suffered an injury in combat which resulted in an offense.
Mission

Our mission is to provide support and rehabilitation opportunities to qualified criminal defendants whose crimes were materially connected to combat injuries suffered as a result of honorable service in the United States Armed Forces.

Description
The Collin County Veterans' Court program is self-funded and does not receive tax-payer dollars. We have a very successful working relationship with the VA and other agencies supporting veterans.

To qualify for the Veterans Court program, the individual must have served in combat, been injured in combat (including PTSD or related substance abuse issue) and that injury resulted in the commission of a criminal offense. Some offenses are not eligible for entry.

Cases will be evaluated on a case by case basis and may qualify for pre-trial participation. This means the case may be dismissed and the record expunged upon successful completion of the program, giving the veteran a 2nd chance at a productive life in our community.

The program lasts from 6 months to 2 years, depending on treatment needs and rate of progress.
