Hours of Operation

Monday - Friday 
3:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
Last client sign-in at 7:30 p.m.

Saturday 
9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Last client sign-in at 3:30 p.m.

The purpose of the Emergency Food Pantry is to serve working families who can’t access their neighborhood pantry.

Requirements 

  • Government issued photo I.D.
  • The pantry requires proof of employment in the form of a paycheck or paystub from an employer dated within 30 days of visit.
  • Clients must possess an official document containing the client's name and current living address dated within 60 days of their visit. (One time only.)

The emergency pantry is operated by the Emergency Aid Coalition (EAC).  Emergency Aid Coalition has been a partner agency of the Houston Food Bank for almost 25 years. The organization’s mission is to serve as an interfaith association of congregations covenanted to promote the self-sufficiency of its clients by assisting them with basic needs.  In addition to food, clients will receive references for food pantries in their neighborhoods.

Our Programs

Backpack Buddy
Nutritious kid-friendly food is provided for the weekend for at-risk children in schools grade K-12, as well as at summer meal program sites.

Client Assistance Program (CAP) 
Assistance in applying for state-funded social and health services, including SNAP (food stamps), Medicaid, Children's Medicaid and others.

Core Connections Network
Clients at hunger relief charities are connected with nutritious food, combined with comprehensive social services and education about health issues, so they can build a better future

Emergency Food Pantry
Operated in partnership with the Emergency Aid Coalition, this pantry is located at the Houston Food Bank and is open extended hours to serve working families and individuals.

Food For Change
Food for Change will strategically distribute food as a catalyst to motivate client participation in partner social service programs with measurable outcomes.

Keegan Kitchen 
With help from volunteers, hot meals are prepared in our kitchen in the Mary Barden Keegan Center on the North Freeway for the Kids Cafe program.

Kids Cafe
Healthy meals and snacks served year-round on weekdays, along with nutrition and health education, to kids in after school and summer meal programs throughout the Houston area.

Nutrition Education
Classes in nutrition, food safety, meal preparation and budgeting taught in collaboration with Food Bank partner agencies.
 

Red Barrels
Red Barrels offer a convenient way for grocery shoppers to donate nonperishables to their neighbors in need through nearby food pantries. 

Senior Box Program 
Provides a monthly box of food to low income seniors and other eligible individuals. 

Teachers Aid
School supplies for teachers in low income schools.  


Job Training Programs
Serving for Success
Provides more food for hungry people through a collaboration that prepares individuals within the criminal justice system, and others, for success in the workplace and the community. Participants receive job training, education, employment opportunities and social services while volunteering at the Houston Food Bank.
