Child Crisis Center of El Paso

The Child Crisis Center of El Paso (CCC) was established in 1980 as the first crisis nursery in the state of Texas.  George and Mary Russell, an El Paso couple, started the Center in response to their personal experience of child abuse within their family.

The Russell's were determined that this should not happen to any child.  They pulled together a group of friends, leased a small house from a parish, and started the Center with many volunteers, little money and great determination. We provide Emergency Shelter services to protect children ages newborn through 13 years, and family education and support services to build stronger families.

The Child Crisis Center of El Paso (CCCEP) provides emergency shelter for children newborn up to 13 years for families experiencing a crisis, which may include critical need for parental stress relief, parent/sibling hospitalization, an incarcerated parent, a parent being admitted into an alcohol/drug rehabilitation program, homelessness, deportation, a temporary Child Protective Placement (CPS), and/or utilities disconnect.  We offer families the support needed to stabilize their immediate situation and their lives as a whole to prevent the situation from occurring again.  We offer parenting classes, case management for families with children placed in the center, and child abuse prevention education. Other services include our Resource Center, Volunteer Program, and our Discovery Shop.

Among the supporters of the Child Crisis Center of El Paso are the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8550; the Texas Resources for Iraq-Afghanistan Deployment Fund of the San Antonio Area Foundation for second year funding in the amount of $142,326, and an additional $93,275 grant to provide Emergency Shelter and Family Services for military families and their children whose solider has been deployed to Iraq and/or Afghanistan; and Ft. Bliss Officers' Civilians' & Spouses Association for selecting a grant to provide meals and snacks to military children who stay at the CCC emergency shelter.
